COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: Janelle and Ozzy

COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: JANELLE AND OZZY

Janelle and Ozzy were one of the first LH Couples I met when I started working here back in March. They had booked with us in August of 2015, and being that they were a little more familiar with The Lighthouse than I was at the time (given I was still getting my feet wet with my new job), I can’t say I wasn’t nervous to initially meet them. But when I finally did, they were just THE sweetest couple! They were both so patient, light-hearted and funny, and were always welcoming with smiles and all. I immediately gravitated to their warmth and felt no intimidation whatsoever.

When I received O+J’s Couple’s Spotlight responses, I wasn’t surprised at how much love there was in Janelle’s words. You can just sense the connection between the two of them. I couldn’t help but laugh and at the same time want to cry! Read on and you’ll see why (as if the beautiful photos aren't enough)!

1) How did you and Ozzy meet?

(By Janelle)

Our story is unique. Yes, it began in the typical manner where we met through a mutual friend. But that very first night we met was incredibly different, special if you will. That night sparks flew. No, no, not the lovey, dovey "I'm madly in love with you" kind of sparks. These were friendship sparks, like immediately hit it off, let's hang out tomorrow and the next weekend and the weekend after that kind of sparks. Our love story starts there, as true best friends. We always found ourselves wanting to be in each other’s company. We became each other's horror film watching-taco eating-bar hopping-adventure seeking companions. As our relationship developed, I realized that Ozzy and I have been each other's backbone throughout our entire relationship; supportive, encouraging and just absolutely amazing friends and partners in life. I know everyone's love story is different but I think our love story is special.

2) What's the proposal story?

Can I just say nervous! I had a gut feeling it was coming. He was acting kind of weird, which usually doesn't surprise me :) but my instincts told me he was nervous, which in turn made me nervous! The day started out with Ozzy surprising me with a suite at my favorite hotel. So, off we go to some unknown adventure. I had no idea what to expect. Were we just going to have a quiet night in and order room service and relax all day? Was I going to walk in and find Robin Thicke on a grand piano with Ozzy on one knee? I mean, the possibilities were endless!

Unfortunately, Robin Thicke is not a part of this fairytale but it was indeed a beautiful day. We had an amazing lunch at the pier in San Francisco. Interesting side note, do not eat food near San Francisco seagulls, they very well can mug you of your food. I speak of personal experience. So, after we unintentionally fed the seagulls our $20 shrimp from the grotto, we had to have lunch in a restaurant that consisted of a roof and doors. Once we returned to our hotel suite, as I was getting ready for dinner, Ozzy was secretly prepping the living room. I had no idea what I was about to walk into....

I walked out to John Legend playing in the background (come on, no love story is complete without a John Legend cameo) and chocolate covered strawberries on the table with bubbly in Ozzy's hand. I was completely taken aback. I thought, “note to self:  buy champagne and strawberries.” And there it happened.... He knelt on one knee and said, “I have something to ask.” Of course I responded with, "I think I'll start with a strawberry!" I thought he was going to ask if I wanted strawberries or champagne first! I mentioned that I was nervous, right?

Once we got over that moment of confusion, he popped the long awaited question. This time I appropriately answered yes! The day was absolutely perfect and I couldn't imagine it to be any other way, hiccups and all.

3) What made you decide to book The Lighthouse for your big day?

One word - Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful, I had to make it a two-word response! The Lighthouse was everything we were looking for and then some. It completely captured the vision that we had in mind. It was a complete bonus to work with the amazing staff, who have been so incredibly helpful along the way. We are madly in love with The Lighthouse.

4) What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Simply put, I can't wait to call Ozzy my husband. Everything else on that day is an added bonus.

Beautifully said, Janelle! And we certainly can't wait to see your (and Ozzy's) big day unfold!

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Shop Candy Crush

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: Shop Candy Crush

As mentioned in our anniversary blog post--we've had the pleasure of connecting with some of the most supportive vendors, not just in the Bay Area, but in the industry as a whole. One such small business we were lucky to cross paths with very early in our journey was Shop Candy Crush, and its innovative and driven owner/operator: Jeannette Quintero.

In Jeanette's online shop, you can peruse through and purchase some seriously adorable party supplies (I mean, c'mon look at some of this stuff):

...and the most amazing selection of one-of-a-kind linens. I'm not kidding you, folks...her curated collection is drool-worthy.

You can also find some incredible event design inspiration via her blog, because Jeanette's talents aren't limited to linens and décor--she's an incredible stylist as well. She's got an eye for making things sparkle--both figuratively and literally ;)

We've had the pleasure of working with Shop Candy Crush on a number of shoots and events, and we're continually amazed by Jeanette's sense of design, her resources, and her passion for the industry. Through her we've been connected with other like-minded companies and individuals, and we're eternally grateful for that.

See below for some Shop Candy Crush/Lighthouse Collaborations.

If you're looking to add a bit of sparkle or texture to your big day, we highly recommend checking out Shop Candy Crush :)

The Lighthouse Celebrates TWO!

THE LIGHTHOUSE: 2nd Anniversary

On June 12, 2014, after two years of renovations, The Lighthouse officially opened its doors. Surrounded by city officials, local vendors, friends, and family, we cut the ribbon and dove right in.

Since that wonderful evening, we've had the extreme privilege of bearing witness to several dozen wedding ceremonies, engagement parties, baby showers, anniversaries, graduations, and even a handful of memorial services. To be entrusted as the backdrop for SO many momentous occasions, and to know we'll forever be intertwined in the history of so many lives, is not something we take lightly. We take pride in what we do, and we appreciate our amazing clients, not only for choosing to join our Lighthouse family, but for being the amazing, down-to-earth people that truly make our job enjoyable.

Last year, our One-Year Anniversary was coupled with a celebration for winning "Marina of the Year". Out of all of the "small" marinas in the nation--The Glen Cove Marina ranked number one. We surely couldn't have accomplished this without the support of all of our clients and vendor friends. Because not only have we had the privilege of working with the best clients around, we've also established some amazing connections and relationships with the most incredible vendors. The support, encouragement, and kindness we've been shown has been overwhelming.

We'll soon be rolling out our "Vendor Spotlight" feature on the LH Blog (along with several other features to help spruce things up around here), so you'll get to know some of these incredibly talented Bay Area event professionals soon enough.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for making these past two years in business so wonderful--we look forward to infinite more!
