COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: Brisa and Joseph

COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: Brisa and Joseph

For some, finding and falling in love with "the one" just magically happens. Perhaps it could be love at first sight, high school sweethearts reunited at last, or a fortunate stroke of serendipity. This adventurous LH Couple just happened to be at the right place at the right time! Brisa and Joseph, soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs., first booked The Lighthouse back in June of 2015. And with only a few weeks left leading up to their big day, we share the sweet and simple story of how the two met and what they are looking forward to most about their upcoming wedding.

1) How did you and Joseph meet?

(By Brisa)

My best friend (who is my maid of honor) had a birthday party for her 21st in Santa Cruz. Her cousin is friends with my fiance and brought him to that party. I had mentioned to another friend that I thought he was kind of cute, she then meddled a bit and the rest is history.

2) What's the proposal story?

We went away to Auburn for our anniversary. After the day of exploring and a great dinner, we went back to our room and he got down on one knee and proposed. I was totally not expecting it.

3) What made you decide to book The Lighthouse for your big day?

We chose the Lighthouse because we wanted something local (we live in Vallejo) and we were intrigued by it's history and loved that it was by the water.

4) What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are excited about getting married and having all the people we love (some we haven't seen in years) in the same room!

After hearing about some of the ideas that Brisa has in mind for their wedding, we are so looking forward to seeing it all come to life at the end of this month!

We were delighted to hear that Crystal and JD wanted to participate in our LH Couple's Spotlight! The happy couple booked with us in April of last year and are less than a month away from finally saying, "I Do!" Just looking at their pictures, we couldn't wait to hear the story behind how they met. Read on to find out how... (P.S. It's a good one!)

1) How did you and JD meet?

(By Crystal)

We met at the Saddle Rack! I was out on a girl's night, and he was out with his guy friends. Shania Twain's "Man I Feel Like a Woman" came on and I was excitedly making a music video in my imagination. When I heard the line, "Men's shirts, short skirts" I reached out for the closest "men's shirt" I saw, and it was JD! We spent the rest of the night dancing, talking, and (let's be honest) kissing. He got my number when we left, and immediately started texting and setting up a first get together.

2) What's the proposal story?

JD planned the proposal for a long time to surprise me. He sent a friend of mine with me on a secret mission to see the rings I liked, and started talking to her to plan it all. We went to Carmel on a day I had off of school with my friend and her boyfriend. We had a little picnic on the beach and then decided to go into Carmel for some lunch. On our walk back to the car, we stopped at my favorite tree to take some pictures. The next thing I knew, my daughter Kinsey was reading a note. I was listening to her, trying to figure out what she was saying and where this came from. She read the words "will you marry me?" and I looked over at JD and he was down on one knee holding a ring. I said yes - of course! - and was so happy and surprised!

3) What made you decide to book The Lighthouse for your big day?

We were looking for a place that was beautiful, perhaps "beachy", had an option to stay on site, and flexible/open for us to really customize the event to what we were looking for. I saw an advertisement for The Lighthouse in a wedding magazine I picked up at a Wedding Fair, and thought it looked great. From a little internet research, it seemed like it was within our budget and open to us making the event our own. We made an appointment, and within 5 minutes we were sold! We actually had another appointment at a different venue the next morning, and we were suddenly completely uninterested. We booked on the spot, and cancelled the other appointment with no regrets!

4) What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We most look forward to the time spent with loved ones having a great big party. It will be amazing to see all the pieces we've been planning for so long come together! Food trucks, dessert table, our own signature cocktails, beanbag games on the lawn, photography... it's going to be the best party ever in one of the most beautiful places I've seen in a long time.

We certainly cannot wait to see all of what this fun-loving couple has in store for their big day!

COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: Tabitha and Ross

COUPLE'S SPOTLIGHT: Tabitha and Ross

We first met Tabitha and Ross over a year ago--we can hardly believe their big day is already in less than a month! Read below to learn a bit more about these two cuties.

Rowing! I had recently moved to the area and I had made a girlfriend who suggested that I come out and row with her. Since I had never tried it I thought I would give it a go. I started rowing with the women's team regularly and one night we had an open seat in the boat, so the coach reached out to the mixed team for participation and little did I know, but my future husband showed up that night.

Ross was rowing on the men's team for the Alcatraz Island race, which is in very difficult water. I had volunteered to be the bow hook- which is essentially the coach/cheerleader who sits behind the rowers and encourages and corrects them. That year, Alcatraz was terrible!! Only one team crossed the finish line, the rest had to be towed in or use a separate entrance. We were on the water for about 2 and half hours, but going nowhere. After that we decided to hang around the city for the day and it ended up coming up. I don't think he had planned it that way, but it was perfect.

Love at first sight! We had looked at several venues and nothing seemed to fit our personality or style. When we walked in to the Lighthouse it was perfect. Simple, yet fantastically elegant and right on the water- where we used to row together. It just seemed perfect!

Family! I'm so excited to bring our families together.

And we are lucky to be able to witness the joining of your two families! See you next month, Tabitha and Ross!
